Caddo church treasurer arrested on forgery charges

A Rodessa man wanted on forgery charges turned himself in to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office and is now out on bond.

31-year-old Demario Thomas was the former treasurer of the First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Rodessa. He's accused of writing 106 church checks to himself between April 2010 and October 2012. Caddo detectives say Thomas signed his own name then forged the signature of a church board member so the check would have the required two signatures.

Detectives also say a majority of the checks  were cashed, while others went into Thomas' bank account.

A church board member says the investigation into the missing money began when board members noticing all the bills were coming back not paid and had a lot of bounced checks coming back.
