Caddo Sheriff, SPD to join national Drug Take Back Day

Bringing attention to an increase of pharmaceutical drug abuse and theft, the Caddo Sheriff's Office and the Shreveport Police Department will join a national effort to get the public get rid of unwanted prescription drugs.

The one-day effort, part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, takes place this Saturday at Sheriff's Safety Town at 8910 Jewella Ave. at the west end of the Summer Grove parking lot.

Chimp Haven will host its Second Annual Earth Day Festival, held in conjunction with Chimpanzee Discovery Day, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. Located 22 miles southwest of Shreveport, La., in the Eddie D. Jones Nature Park in Keithville, La., Chimp Haven serves as The National Chimpanzee Sanctuary. The annual Earth Day Festival includes opportunities to view resident chimpanzees, as well as food, art and exhibits by local environmental organizations, businesses and artisans. Admission to the festival is free.

Volunteers needed for Walk MS: shreveport-Bossier City

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society: Louisiana is looking for volunteers to help with Walk MS: Shreveport-Bossier City with presenting sponsor Pfizer.

On Saturday, April 6, more than 400 walkers are expected to walk and help raise the goal of $40,000. Funds raised will support programs and direct services for people with MS and their families in Louisiana and MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system.

Caddo Sheriff's captain graduates from FBI Academy program

Caddo Sheriff’s Captain Darwin Jones graduated from the FBI National Academy Program at Quantico, Virginia, on March 22.

Jones was among 268 law enforcement officers who participated in the 252nd session of the National Academy Program, which is internationally known for its academic excellence.

Hundreds of Motorcyclists Expected In Marshall on April 5 weekend

500 to 700 members of the Gold Wings Road Riders Association will be in Marshall beginning Wednesday, April 3, for three days to participate in a five-state regional meeting. While most of the activities are for the rally members, there will be activities in downtown Marshall available free to the public.

Friday night the Gold Wings are hosting a car show and beach party/street dance followed by a Gold Wing light parade. All car owners of unique or antique vehicles are invited to cruise on down to North Washington to show their vehicle pride.
