Caddo teachers and students to be recognized at 3rd annual “Red Apple Education” awards reception | Community Spirit

The Shreveport/Bossier African-American Chamber of Commerce along with Community Renewal International is proud to announce the 3rd Annual “Red Apple Excellence in Education Scholarship Awards program
This initiative, the “Red Apple Excellence in Education Scholarship Awards Reception”, provides our teachers with an event designed to recognize their great work in serving our children and community.
SBAACC and CRI will recognize and honor elementary, middle, and high school teachers from among 26 schools in the district with high African American student enrollment who have excelled in the following areas: mentorship, raising test scores, and / or volunteerism.
The honorees will be recognized at an Awards Reception to be held Thursday, May 17, 6:30 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel at 1419 East 70 St.;
Four graduating seniors, Alexis Morris from Booker T. Washington High School, Keilon Hill from Fair Park High School, Tiara James from Green Oaks High School, and Camille Tademy from Woodlawn High School, will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Six teachers who have gone over and above will each receive a $250 cash award as well. Each teacher nominated will be recognized from all 26 schools by receiving an award of recognition.
Additionally, a special presentation will be presented to four educational and community leaders (Marvin Alexander, Green Oaks Principal; Gerald Dawkins, Ed.D., Caddo Parish Public Schools’ Superintendent; Patrick Greer, Booker T. Washington Principal; and Pittre Walker, Caddo Parish Public Schools’ Homeless Coordinator) selecting two to receive the coveted Red Apple Award for outstanding service in the area of education.
