American Rose Center's 39th season opens

The Gardens of the American Rose Center opened for its 39th season on March 1. Hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Admission for the 2013 garden season remains by donation only, as our gift to the community in celebration of our 39 years in Shreveport.

American Rose Center announces 2013 Easter egg hunt

The American Rose Center says its 13th annual Easter Egg Hunt & Festival will occur from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Gardens of the American Rose Center.

Admission is $10 per car. In case of rain, the event will be held the following day from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24.

Hosston Mira Water System under Boil Advisory

North Caddo residents who are on the Hosston Mira Water System are under a Boil Advisory. Crews had to repair two leaks, which required them to turn the water off. The water system's manager said the Department of Health and Hospitals will test the water and the advisory will hopefully be lifted on Thursday.

Mr. Robert Powell, a Consulting Rosarian and the President of the Shreveport Rose Society, will be the guest speaker at the Louisiana Nursery's Rose Gardening Seminar. It will be held from 10 - 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10th at Louisiana Nursery, 12290 Mansfield Road in Keithville.

The Heritage & Harvest Tour is Saturday, September 24 from 10 am to 3 pm. The three homes on tour this year are located in Belcher.  Other areas of interest include the Belcher Prebyterian Chruch, Shield's Lawn and Garden, Gilliam Gin, Red River Crossroads Museum, Hale Grist Mill, Capt Fletcher E Adams Fighter Group Squadron Museum, gardens at the home of James Allison and the Ida Methodist Church. Tickets are available on the day of the tour at ll tour homes, the Belcher Presbyterian Church and the Red River Crossroads Museum in Gilliam.

South Caddo residents to meet about continuing water problems

Because of the serious water supply situation facing southeast Caddo Parish, Caddo Parish Commissioner Mike Thibodeaux is hosting a meeting with folks in the area about possibly changing over to the city's water system. The meeting will be from 6:45 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22 at the Ellerbe Road Baptist Church, 10705 Ellerbe Road. Representatives from the City of Shreveport and Caddo Parish administrators will be on hand with more information and to answer questions.
