Captain Shreve Senior Wins national award

Nicholas Fry, Captain Shreve High School senior, was awarded the Silver Key for his short story and personal essay submissions to the 2013 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.  Fry also won an Honorable Mention for another short story. Fry plans to major in English education in college.

Caddo Sheriff’s Captain Darwin Jones graduated from the FBI National Academy Program at Quantico, Virginia, on March 22.

Jones was among 268 law enforcement officers who participated in the 252nd session of the National Academy Program, which is internationally known for its academic excellence.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler is encouraging all Louisianians eligible to vote in the April 6 primary election to consider voting early starting this Saturday. Early voting begins Saturday, March 23rd and continues through Saturday, March 30. The polls will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, excluding Good Friday (March 29) and Easter Sunday (March 31).

Caddo deputy named Louisiana 40 and 8 Officer of the Year

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Deputy Michael Vaitkus has been selected as Louisiana's 40 and 8 Officer of the Year for 2013.

He will receive the state award in Lafayette on July 21. His selection now makes him eligible to be considered for the national Law Officer of the Year award in Indiana.

Caddo Magnet wins state archery tournament

Caddo Magnet High School placed 1st in the 2013 NASP State Archery Tournament held on March 2 at LSU-Alexandria Mega Shelter. Out of more than 50 shooters in the high school division, CMHS took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th individual honors.

In addition to a placement plaque, both Anna and Kellen walked away with new Genesis bows.

Captain Shreve High School Student Council President Brooklyn Brown was awarded the Dale Hawley National Leadership Award at the Louisiana Association of Student Councils (LASC) Convention held at Sulphur High School, Sulphur, Louisiana. The Hawley Award is the highest honor a high school senior can receive from the National Association of Student Councils.
