Emergency responders plan I-49 disaster drill

Starting about 9 a.m. on Thursday, the I-49 North Safety Coalition will hold a disaster drill on a closed section of the new Interstate 49 near Mira. The drill will simulate a major crash with mass casualties on the new Interstate.

Sections of the interstate are scheduled to open in the summer of 2013.

Hundreds of Motorcyclists Expected In Marshall on April 5 weekend

500 to 700 members of the Gold Wings Road Riders Association will be in Marshall beginning Wednesday, April 3, for three days to participate in a five-state regional meeting. While most of the activities are for the rally members, there will be activities in downtown Marshall available free to the public.

Friday night the Gold Wings are hosting a car show and beach party/street dance followed by a Gold Wing light parade. All car owners of unique or antique vehicles are invited to cruise on down to North Washington to show their vehicle pride.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler is encouraging all Louisianians eligible to vote in the April 6 primary election to consider voting early starting this Saturday. Early voting begins Saturday, March 23rd and continues through Saturday, March 30. The polls will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, excluding Good Friday (March 29) and Easter Sunday (March 31).

American Rose Center announces 2013 Easter egg hunt

The American Rose Center says its 13th annual Easter Egg Hunt & Festival will occur from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Gardens of the American Rose Center.

Admission is $10 per car. In case of rain, the event will be held the following day from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24.

Chimp Haven announces 2013 Discovery Days schedule

Chimp Haven, a national chimpanzee sanctuary, will open its park doors to the public for seven free, educational events in 2013.

Discovery Days 2013, which will occur once a month from 9 a.m. until Noon in March through June and again in September through November, are the only regularly-scheduled opportunities for the public to visit the sanctuary.

5 horses up for auction by Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office

Five horses, picked up by Caddo Parish deputies, are up for auction by the sheriff's office.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office will accept bids from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 8, at the sheriff’s substation at 4910 North Market.

Up for sale are: an Appaloosa gelding picked up off Alma Street in Shreveport; a chestnut gelding picked up off Ridgehaven in Caddo Parish; a paint stud picked up off Jefferson-Paige Road in Caddo Parish; a paint mare picked up off Line Avenue in Shreveport; and a bay mare picked up off Colquitt Road in Caddo Parish.
