Captain Shreve Senior Wins national award

Nicholas Fry, Captain Shreve High School senior, was awarded the Silver Key for his short story and personal essay submissions to the 2013 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.  Fry also won an Honorable Mention for another short story. Fry plans to major in English education in college.

Caddo Magnet wins state archery tournament

Caddo Magnet High School placed 1st in the 2013 NASP State Archery Tournament held on March 2 at LSU-Alexandria Mega Shelter. Out of more than 50 shooters in the high school division, CMHS took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th individual honors.

In addition to a placement plaque, both Anna and Kellen walked away with new Genesis bows.

Chimp Haven announces 2013 Discovery Days schedule

Chimp Haven, a national chimpanzee sanctuary, will open its park doors to the public for seven free, educational events in 2013.

Discovery Days 2013, which will occur once a month from 9 a.m. until Noon in March through June and again in September through November, are the only regularly-scheduled opportunities for the public to visit the sanctuary.

CCAA Head Start accepting enrollment applications

The Caddo Community Action Agency, Inc. Head Start Program is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2013-14 school year for children betweeen ages 3-5 and living in Caddo Parish. Children with disabilities are encouraged to enroll.

Enrollment applications for Head Start will be screened the second week of May. Applicants applying after the screening process will be placed on the prioritized waiting list.

La. High School Fishing Championship coming to Caddo Parish

La. High School Fishing Championship coming to Caddo Parish

The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW and The Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission announced today it will host the 2013 Student Angler Federation (SAF) Louisiana High School Fishing State Championship on Sunday, March 10. The event will be held in Caddo County on Caddo Lake in Oil City, La., launching out of Earl G Williamson Park.

The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for anglers and their “coach,” who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org.
