Starting about 9 a.m. on Thursday, the I-49 North Safety Coalition will hold a disaster drill on a closed section of the new Interstate 49 near Mira. The drill will simulate a major crash with mass casualties on the new Interstate.

Sections of the interstate are scheduled to open in the summer of 2013.

500 to 700 members of the Gold Wings Road Riders Association will be in Marshall beginning Wednesday, April 3, for three days to participate in a five-state regional meeting. While most of the activities are for the rally members, there will be activities in downtown Marshall available free to the public.

Friday night the Gold Wings are hosting a car show and beach party/street dance followed by a Gold Wing light parade. All car owners of unique or antique vehicles are invited to cruise on down to North Washington to show their vehicle pride.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises that LA Hwy. 169 between LA Hwy. 1 and LA Hwy. 538 in Mooringsport will be closed on Wednesday, September 19 from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. The closure is so Kansas City Railroad can replace the railroad crossing. There will be detour signs along the route. Westbound drivers should detour to LA Hwy. 1 south, head west on LA Hwy. 173, then take LA Hwy. 538 north to its intersection with LA Hwy. 169. The closure should only last a day weather permitting.
